Martin Scorsese is an Italian-American director, screenwriter, producer and film-historian and is widely regarded as one of the most talented and greatest directors ever. He has won a multitude of honours and awards, including the AFI Lifetime achievement award for his numerous and great contribution to cinema, he's also won an academy award, the Palme d'Or, best director at the Cannes film festival, a silver lion award, A Grammy, Emmy awards, BAFTA awards and DGA awards, in total he has received an astonishing 137 different awards, and a further 144 nominations.
Scorsese's body of work typically addresses themes consisting of American-Italian identity, Roman-Catholic concepts of guilt and redemption, machismo, modern crime and gang conflict. His films also frequently explicitly depict violence and liberal use of profanity.
Martin Scorsese has frequently collaborated with Hollywood star Robert De Niro 8 times (Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, Goodfellas) and more recently, Leonardo DiCaprio 5 times (Gangs Of New York, The Departed) and the relationship with Scorsese and DiCaprio is frequently compared with Scorsese relationship with De Niro.
