Conventions of thriller films

It's ambiguous as to exactly what it is that defines a thriller piece, and with a multitude of sub-genres attached to the thriller genre, it can make it even more complex to find exactly what are the factors that make up a thriller.

Thrillers often contain a similar theme, but in a vast range of different contexts. A similar theme is a protagonist facing a problem that needs overcoming, and often the problem endangers the protagonists, and they are often faced with death as a very real possibility.

Thrillers also often use similar elements in film; Mise en scene; sound; editing; camera shots and movement.
